Fair Wheel Picker

Wheel of names: spin to pick a name

Type or paste a list of names, one per line, and spin the wheel of names to pick someone at random. It works for classrooms, meetings, giveaways and game nights, and nothing you type ever leaves your device.

How to use the wheel of names

Replace the sample names in the Entries box with your own list. You can paste straight from a spreadsheet column, a chat message or a class roster; every line becomes a slice. Click the wheel, press the Spin button or hit the Space bar to spin.

When the wheel stops, the winning name pops up with confetti. Choose Remove from wheel to take that name out so nobody gets picked twice, or tick Remove winner after each spin to do it automatically. Every result is logged in the history panel with the time it was picked.

Why a name wheel beats drawing names from a hat

A spinning wheel is visible to everyone in the room, so the draw feels fair and fun at the same time. Students lean in, colleagues stop checking their phones and giveaway viewers can see that nothing was rigged.

It is also faster: there are no slips of paper to cut, no bowl to shake, and the list is saved automatically for next lesson or next week's stand-up.

Ideas for using a name picker wheel

Teachers use it to choose who answers the next question, who presents first or who gets the class job of the week. Managers use it to rotate meeting facilitators or note takers. Streamers and shop owners use it to pick giveaway winners live on camera, and families use it to decide whose turn it is to do the dishes.

Switch on Event mode to fill the whole screen with the wheel, which is ideal for projectors, smart boards and live streams.

    Make it yours

Give the wheel a title, choose a colour theme, adjust how long it spins and turn the tick sound on or off. When it looks right, press Share wheel to copy a link that opens exactly the same wheel on any device.

    Private by design

Fair Wheel Picker is a static web page. The wheel, the random pick, the sound and the confetti all run in your browser. There is no account, no database and no upload. Your entries and history are stored in your browser's local storage so they are still there next time, and you can wipe them at any time by clearing the entries and history.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my entries uploaded anywhere?

No. Fair Wheel Picker runs entirely in your browser. Entries are kept in your browser storage on this device only, and shared links carry the wheel inside the part of the URL after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

    Is the result really random?

Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator before the animation starts, and every slice has exactly the same chance. The spin animation simply lands on the slice that was picked.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is completely free and there is no sign-up. Open the page, type your entries and spin. Your wheel is remembered on this device for next time.

How many names can I add?

Up to 500 entries. Labels are drawn on the wheel for up to 200 slices; beyond that the colours still spin and the winner is shown in the pop-up.

Can I stop the same name being picked twice?

Yes. Tick Remove winner after each spin, or press Remove from wheel in the winner pop-up.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Tap the wheel to spin. It works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, iPad, Chromebook, Mac and Windows.
